Confessions of an oracle
Don't you hate pundits who make predictions and then never acknowledge where they were right and, even better for second-guessers, where they were wrong? Not this pundit.
State Senate Democrats in disarray
State Senate Democrats, relegated to the minority in 2015, met Wednesday but could not find consensus on a new leader, sources say. The outgoing majority leader, Mo Denis, still wants the job. But so do Aaron Ford and Kelvin Atkinson. And none have a majority. At least not yet, so they postponed the vote. "There's no rush," Tick Segerblom told me. Ford is seen as the most moderate, but apparently has the backing of progressive Pat Spearman. Denis is obviously the nice-guy candidate (again), but the Democrats finished last in 2014, so that doesn't help.
The Sandoval Sweep is unprecedented
When was the last time the Republicans held all constitutional offices and both houses of the Legislature? Never, say the great folks at the Legislative Counsel Bureau. Clark down 5 percent at less than 63 percent of turnout, Washoe at registration at 20 percent, rurals up 5 percent over registration at 17 percent. I see red people. All on the Dems for after-work voting or carnage will be massive.
The early voting blog: Updated every day with numbers and analysis
FINAL, FINAL, 5:45PM, 11/3: Absentees counted since Saturday morning bring GOP lead to 24,000 ballots, 8 percent. Totals. MORE NUMBERS TO CONSUDER BEFORE TUESDAY, 10:30 AM, 11/3:
Another big property manager threatens renters with hikes if margin tax passes
First it was Camden Properties trying to frighten residents not to vote for the margin tax. Corporate officials eventually backed off, saying an overly zealous Vegas local sent it out. But Monday, Ovation Property Management, another Vegas apartment giant, followed suit, with this missive to its residents, which was the usual Chicken Little stuff and also elevated Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick to Congress:
MY COLUMN: Predictions for Campaign '14
In 1986, a two-term congressman named Harry Reid successfully ran for the U.S. Senate with the slogan, “Independent Like Nevada.”
