Progressives set up two PACs to promote tax initiatives
UPDATE, 3/24/14: And then there were three. ---- The Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada has erected two political action committees, one to try to pass the margin tax and another to promote taking mining taxation out of the Constitution. I'm not sure how much money they can raise, but Nevadans for Mining Fairness and Nevadans for Corporate Responsibility, both filed last week, create vehicles for the groups to try to combat the corporate interests that will fund opposition.

TX taxpayers watchdog: NV margin tax "far more burdensome" than TX version
The margin tax would raise $725 million to $825 million a year and would be "far more burdensome" than the Texas version, a Lone Star state taxpayers association chief asserted this week. Dale Craymer made the claim in a letter to his Nevada counterpart, Carole Vilardo, who already has raised numerous questions about The Education Initiative. The letter, posted below, says the Nevada tax has a much higher rate than the Texas franchise tax on which it is based and corrals businesses the Texas tax exempts.

Reid, Sandoval will be together to promote clean energy
No Solyndra jokes allowed. No NV-Energy-owns-the governor-jokes allowed. On Thursday morning at 10:30, in front of the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Gov. Brian Sandoval will be together to hype clean energy. The frenemies will be there, as you can see below, on behalf of the Clean Energy Project to talk about all of the wonderful investment in Nevada. Somebody take a picture. No 2016 announcements expected.

As the parade of 2016 hopefuls comes to Las Vegas next week for a Republican Jewish Coalition meeting, former UN Ambassador John Bolton will appear at two events for local candidates -- one for attorney general hopeful Adam Laxalt and one for congressional candidate Niger Innis.
Southern Nevada leaders meet and greet, but will they act?
They came. They talked. They promised. And, like whispers through the mists of history, Jim Bilbray and Dina Titus could be heard haunting the UNLV ballroom, admonishing the dozens of guests to hold firm, to secure the South's fair share.
