Hambrick to caucus: Prepare for special session on Faraday
Speaker John Hambrick sent this to his caucus tonight:
Donald Trump wants money from me
I'm verklempt. Urgent Message from Donald J. Trump Dear Friend, Are you ready to Make America Great Again?
Perennial loser caucus files tax repeal referendum
It's the same old, same old of Nevada GOP fringe types who generally fail but talk big: failed candidate Bunces, Michele Fiore pal Dan Muth. You know who they are. They are listed below, with the referendum and the We Decide Coalition. I get a kick out of these folks, who claim to revere the Constitution, circumventing the notion of a republic when it suits them. Buckle up.
This is not the answer on reporting polls, but there is one
In a piece that posted today, the respected Columbia Journalism Review argued, according to the headline: "Why political journalists shouldn’t report on internal polling."
Who really got the vet clinic green-lighted in Pahrump?
At 8:14 AM on Aug. 5, Rep. Cresent Hardy -- or at least his Twitter feed operator -- could not contain himself:
Assembly Republicans: Sandoval guilty of "treason"
Assemblywoman Michele Fiore and Assemblyman Brent Jones, appearing on the radio, recently accused Gov. Brian Sandoval of "treason" and said that is why the GOP is "excommunicating him." That was a reference to the $1.4 billion tax increase, supported by 80 percent of lawmakers, inlcuding a majority of Republicans in both houses. They also accused the governor of only "sticking to his guns" for people "who write him fat checks," as Fiore put it.
Jeb returns to Nevada, North and South
A few days after announcing 17 county chairs and a couple of weeks after a Carson City town hall, Jeb Bush returns to Nevada next Wednesday. It's will be his third visit as a candidate since May. Bush clearly knows We Matter. The details: A noon rally at the Hyatt Place near the airport in Reno. A 5:30 PM town hall at the Pearson Community Center in North Las Vegas. An appaerance on "Ralston Live," too? A host can dream....
Anderson has message for Dems: Come at me, bro
Conventional wisdom has it that the Democrats are favorites to recapture the Assembly, which they shockingly lost in 2014 after holding a 27-15 edge and hemorraghing 10 seats. Beneficiaries of the red wave such as Shelly Shelton, John Moore and Victoria Seaman (fleeing to a state Senate race demise) will be erased, the CW goes. An additional two more seats in a Democratic year and control switches. Done deal?
Happy 93rd, Paul Laxalt
Paul Laxalt, the ex-senator and ex-governor, turns 93 today. He has been ill for some time and is rarely seen anymore. On this occasion, I post a gift I recently received from my friend, the great historian/journalist Bob Stoldal, a letter Laxalt wrote in 1991, reminiscing about how he had spent his second Senate term ("fascinating but terribly difficult period") torn between the White House, where his friend Ronald Reagan resided, and the Club of 100.
Last time the GOP tried an anti-tax Contract with Nevada: Disaster
In 2004, after what was then the largest tax increase in Nevada history, some Mensa-like GOP strategists thought an anti-tax "Contract with Nevada" would help the Republicans take over the Assembly, then in Democratic control by 23-19. It was a disaster.
